One of the great technological treasures of the nation is the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon. For 25 years they have created software engineering processes, constructs and solutions for enterprises in and out of government. You probably consider them synonymous with CMMI, the Capability Maturing Model Integration for software development. But they are really far more than that. They provide models and methods for team and individual software development, and are also leaders in information security, operational security (including hosting the world-famous CERT) and in computer security training. Their core purpose: to help organizations improve their software engineering capabilities and to develop or acquire the right software, defect free, within budget and on time, every time.
That’s a pretty darn good purpose.
