Bye Bye Flash Player? What does this mean for Mobile Media?

Flash will come out as 11.1 for mobile devices, and that's it.

Last week, Adobe announced that they were dropping development for Flash for mobile devices and TV. According to Adobe: "Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores.  We will no longer continue to develop Flash Player in the browser to work with new mobile device configurations (chipset, browser, OS version, etc.) following the upcoming … [Read more...]

Which Technology Team Will You Be On?

apple vs android vs amazon

Here at CTOVision, we analyze disruptive technologies and follow trends happening in the government, enterprise, and consumer technology space.  Yesterday I was reading reading about Google's new offering of a music service through the Android Market.  I found it interesting that Google would do this, since they are so far behind in the game relative to Apple's iTunes and Amazon's music services.  Then I started thinking about what this meant for … [Read more...]

Will the Amazon Kindle Fire further fracture Android? Or do just the opposite?

FS-KO._V166782090_

The Kindle Fire (shipping yesterday, with over 1M pre-orders) has been indicted as a device that will further fracture the Android Ecosystem. It has an Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) soul, but is completely skinned over in all Amazon garb. The dual-core, 7" tablet has quite a few capabilities that stand out, but it is clear that the intent is to boost user buy-in into the Amazon ecosystem. Amazon now offers streaming video, book rentals, music … [Read more...]

Will the Asus Transformer Prime be the iPad Killer of Lore?

PR-ASUS-Eee-Pad-Transformer-Prime-front

Pundits have often labeled each new Android tablet as the "iPad Killer" (much as they have called every Android super-phone the iPhone killer). However, the recently unveiled Asus Prime, possessing the Tegra 3 Kal-El 4+1 core processor, may finally level the playing field (and be a true enterprise class Android Tablet). The Asus Transformer Prime stands out from the competition in 3 ways: first tablet to be released with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream … [Read more...]

Last night, the first official Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) specs were released. It was released on Samsung's Galaxy Nexus, the latest "Google" phone. The "Google" phones get the first updates, and are continuously updated. Android 4.0 is the 'One Android to rule them all.' It is designed to be the intersection of Gingerbread and Honeycomb - to be a unified OS for both tablet and smartphone. We'll take a further look at ICS in other posts, … [Read more...]

I’ve Got the OODA Blues

BoydPlane

To paraphrase Rodney Dangerfield, military theorist John Boyd can't get no respect. The latest attack on the Loopy One, published in Armed Forces Journal, again mischaracterizes the OODA (Observe-Orient-Decide Act) Loop: This notion that there are specific knowable causes that are linked to corresponding effects dominates military thinking and manifests in our drive to gather as much information as possible before acting. This concept was captured by … [Read more...]

Editor’s note: This post by Derek Singleton of Software Advice reviews more extensive work at: Three Ways Apple is Influencing Enterprise Software Development. These days, apps aren’t just about amazingly addictive games like Angry Birds or streaming your favorite tunes from your Grooveshark app. As the working world becomes increasingly mobile, apps are becoming an important aspect of doing our jobs in better, simpler ways. To be fair, we've … [Read more...]

Android Devices now number 190M Worldwide

Capture

In Google's Q3 earnings call, they released that there are 190M Android Devices Worldwide. Google's mobile revenue is now up to $2.5B over the past 12 months. They are adding over 575K users a day, an incredible rate of adoption. The Motorola purchase, which was seen as Google's first foray into device manufacture, has been called a defense of the Android Operating System - a purchase of patents to protect against the onslaught of lawsuits. These suits … [Read more...]
