The annual DoDIIS Worldwide Conference is scheduled for 12-15 August 2018 in Omaha Nebraska. Every year this event is a great opportunity to learn about the most critical mission needs of the defense intelligence community, as well as see some of the most interesting technologies relevant to analysis, data and enterprise IT. It is also a great chance to catch up with others in the community.
The agenda this year is focused on data. Here is how the conference site describes the focus:
The theme of this year’s conference, “Data as a Weapons System: Revolutionizing Intelligence,”underscores the importance of accelerating DIA’s transformation into a data-centric organization in order to achieve mission success in the 21st century. We need data to be discoverable by both people and machines. Data discovery must be intuitive and it must allow for rapid use and exploitation using automated processes, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Data is the future and the future will not wait for us.
This event is always a “must attend” for me. I plan on being their early to catch the exhibit hall mixer and AWS networking social on 12 August, sit in the great plenary sessions the 13th (which include presentations from the Director of DIA, Commander of Strategic Command, CIO of DoD, Director of NCTC and others). Breakout sessions are also of critical importance at this event, it is the place to go to learn the details of the government’s needs regarding data and technology. Monday also has a fantastic opening mixer and many other socials. Tuesday and Wednesday are also filled with fantastic sessions and great opportunities to socialize and catch up with old friends and meet new people.
The expo floor is always an important benefit for attendees. My personal problem is not having enough time to visit every booth and spend enough time getting demos, there is so much to see. The way I recommend attacking the expo floor is to have a plan. Visit the conference website and look over the list of sponsors and think through in advance which ones seem of interest. Then as soon as you register at the event go to the conference program and read about every sponsor and build your target list from the descriptions there. And be sure to have your organizational needs in mind before visiting the expo floor so you can optimize your time.
Please work your schedule now to attend. It would be great to see you there. For more and to register see: NCSI.com/dia/2018
