With this post we are initiating coverage of Actian, providers of an analytics platform designed to enable positive disruption of enterprise analytics environments.
Actian Corporation enables organizations to transform big data into business value with data management solutions to transact, analyze, and take automated action across their business operations. Actian helps 10,000 customers worldwide take action on their big data with Action Apps, Vectorwise, the analytical database, and Ingres, an independent mission-critical OLTP database. Actian is headquartered in California with offices in New York, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Melbourne.
For an introduction to the Actian Analytics Platform see the video at this link and embedded below:
We have been all over their website and read every product sheet they provide. And we have watched every video they post and read what they provide about their many happy customers.
The overall conclusion at this time is Actian deserves continued study. They clearly have great capability and are delivering value for clients. That is the ultimate positive for any firm in this space. Proven past performance reduces risk in any decision. Things that increase risk, however, are the fact that many others also have proven past performance, and also the fact that Actian does not seem to have a strong open source strategy or commitment. This could cause concerns about the size of the available solution community.
But Actian is definitely one to watch and we are going to be tracking and reporting on them here at CTOvision.
