We have all been tracking the ethics of AI solutions. Here is a tidbit on recent reporting relating to the AI powerhouse Amazon:
While we have heard about the good stories about AI and machine learning, here is a bad one. Retailer Amazon had to shut down a machine learning tool for rating job applications in 2017 because it was biased against female candidates. Amazon had from 2014 been implementing an AI-driven tool to sort job applicants according to their requirements. But to their dismay, they learned that the machine-learning driven new recruiting engine did not like women. They had to completely scrap the AI recruiting tool because of its gender bias in 2017.
