Build vs. Buy: Balancing Innovation & Execution 30 Jan 2020

January 30 @ 17:30 - 19:30 EST

As we enter the 2020’s, enterprise technologists have access to ever more powerful commercially available technology solutions, making it ever more practicable to buy solutions versus building them in house. But large enterprises are still investing large amounts on internal development teams to create solutions. Why is this? Bureaucratic inertia? Or are there unique mission demands that require in-house solutions? The world is changing rapidly and how your organization may have answered those questions just a few years ago may be very different today.

This session will bring a body of experts from the Cloud Security Alliance DC Chapter together to share lessons learned and best practices in making build vs buy decisions. Attendees will leave with an ability to directly apply lessons to your enterprise.

Questions examined will include:
-What factors are driving build vs buy decisions? Which factors should drive those decisions?
-Can any internal solution be built that can be as secure as a commercial solution?
-How can commercial security and compliance be measured?
-What are best practices in concluding market assessments to find the right commercial solution?
-With the advent of new technologies such as AI, Machine/Deep Learning, Blockchain, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) coupled with the increasing and complementary security threat these new technologies pose, what decisions to leaders need to make to secure their future in the new digital economy?

Come learn how innovators plan to tackle these issues first hand.

Moderated by Bob Gourley, CTO & Co-Founder of OODA, LLC joined by a distinguished panel:
-Nicholas Forgues, Branch Chief Digital Services, Office of the Chief Information Officer, U.S. Small Business Administration
-Darryl Peek, Sr. Manager, Federal Civilian Focus, U.S. Global Government Solutions, Global Public Sector, Salesforce
